Module 1: Comprehensive Introduction to the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication surgical procedure:

Quickly build your competency and confidence on the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication. This base module for the SimPraxis Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication iOS Trainer includes: Intro to Training; Intro to the Lap Nissen Procedure; Critical Anatomy; Surgical Risks; User Guide; Indications for Surgery; Patient Workup; Informed Consent; Overview of Surgical Instruments; Liver Retractor Set Up; Interactively Select Instruments; Patient Positioning; Port Access; and Interactive Port Placement.

We recognize, and you should understand, that as it is the case with most surgical procedures there are slightly different ways to perform a Nissen Fundoplication. . We will train you on a standard technique, and where there are differences with other surgeons, we will point these out to you as you proceed through the training and explain the rational for the variations. To this end, surgical variations are presented to you by Nathaniel J. Soper, MD and Marco G. Patti, MD.

Module 2: Dissection & Mobilization: Detailed procedure steps in performing the Dissection and & Mobilization are taught in this module including: Interactively dissecting the left and right Crus; Interactively dividing short gastric vessels and & hepatogastric ligament; and creating a window.

Module 3: Repair the Hiatus & Create the Fundoplication: In this module you will start by interactively repairing the hiatus and gauging the tightness of the crura. Following this you will create, approximate and then suture the fundoplication. Risks, anatomy and procedure step quizzes are provided.

Module 4: Coronal Sutures, Closure & Post Surgery: First, a complete anatomic & didactic review of coronal sutures is provided, then a review of the risks of the hiatal repair and fundoplication. Port site closure & post surgery considerations are also discussed.
